Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the relevant Information Systems Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

·         Develop responsive front-end applications using JavaScript, Typescript, HTML5, CSS;

·         Develop new user-facing features;

·         Optimize application for maximum speed and scalability;

·         Build reusable code and libraries for future use;

·         Design, develop and maintain, test and document code / configuration for applications and platforms. Code will adhere to internal coding standards;

·         Contribute towards the development of our tools, services and platforms;

·         Participate in the creation of attractive interfaces, focusing on driving customer engagement through intuitive, coherent and elegant user experience;

·         Ensure the technical solution is in line with the system architecture;

·         Marinate existing code and propose changes and improvements based on best practices;

·         Review development deliverables (during design and code reviews);

·         Develops creative approaches to problem resolution. Develops partnerships and interacts effectively with colleagues and users internally and externally

·         Supervises and guides other team members

·         Undertake activities, including inter-alia, through coaching or mentoring, on-the-job training, to develop capacity when working with national staff or (non-) governmental counterparts, including Implementing Partners (IPs);

·         Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment

Required degree level

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Educational additional comments

·         Information technology, computer science, electrical engineering or similar area.

·         Masters degree would be considered as an advantage.

Required experience

60 Months

Experience remark

a.       Minimum 5 years of work experience with analysis, design and development of web applications;

b.      Minimum 3 years of work experience in designing and developing responsive web applications with HTML5, CSS and JavaScript (TypeScript);

c.       Experience of front-end frameworks such as Bootstrap;

d.      Proven experience with Angular or React is an asset.

e.       Experience data analysis and proposing analytical dashboard and data visualization solutions is desirable;

Language skills

·         English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

IT architecture and IT project management, Development programme management, Software and applications development and analysis

Area of expertise details

·         Knowledge of information technology/information management, particularly in systems analysis, database design and programming.

·         Knowledge of programming languages for development of web applications such as JavaScript, Java, or jQuery.

·         Knowledge of frameworks for development of restful web services using an agile methodology.

·         Knowledge of interactive systems;

·         Good knowledge of organization’s information infrastructure and IT strategy as it relates to user area(s).

·         Familiar with the Project Lifecycle process from requirements gathering, development, testing, user acceptance, deployment and support.

·         Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, to include proficiency in the development and implementation of systems of moderate size/complexity.

·         Demonstrated ability to persuade others to accept systems recommendation or modifications.

·         Ability to independently maintain assigned systems and develop innovative approaches to resolve a wide range of issues/problems.

·         Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

·         Knowledge of another UN official language (Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, French) is desirable.
