Working locations: Doctors Without Borders Mamfe Project

Type of contract: Fixed Term 6 months

Salary: According to the organisation´s Salary Grid - Level 5

 

Main purpose

Carrying out all activities involving social support to individual patients/survivors and linking them with other relevant support services and communities at large, according to MSF principles and guidelines. Enhancing the target population’s social condition to have an impact on health-related outcomes.

 

Accountabilities and Tasks

 

        Conducting social assessments, identifying the social support needs of patients/survivors, including legal, protection, shelter/housing, financial/vocational, food security, and access to medical and psychosocial support services beyond the project intervention scope.

         Supporting the provision of comprehensive care to patients and their families, by actively coordinating their work with the other members of the MSF multidisciplinary team (eg. medical, MHPSS) and linking with multi-sectoral services such as protection, safety, security, legal, justice, education, and livelihood.

         Providing direct social support based on social assessments and facilitating referrals to evaluated external re-sources. Provide systematic follow up care regarding attendance of clinical appointments and following up on referrals made to relevant multi-sectoral services aimed at improving the quality of life of patients/survivors.

         Participating in the creation and maintenance of any material needed for the activities of social workers, including facilities and equipment in order to ensure continuity.

         Mapping and regular updating of formal and informal support services (incl.existing community resources). Assess quality of existing support services, with identification of gaps and advocacy for an improved culturally appropriate social response.

        Maintaining records, statistics, files, and reports on all social work activities and follow up care either provided by MSF or other support services. Identifying gaps in the available services and with the team prioritizing and developing plans following the objectives of MSF.

 

The employee may be required to perform other tasks, take on other responsibilities, and work in other locations, depending on the needs of the project/mission.

 

Context Specific Accountabilities

 

The social worker will be in charge of developing a general strategy of social support for beneficiaries assisted by MSF medical teams in MSF supported health facilities in the Mamfe project and in the community during the outreach activities. S/he will work closely with the medical staff and HP team to develop the patient satisfaction survey in order to:

·       To improve patient experience in MSF supported health facilities in the Mamfe project.

·       Adapt patient’s rights material to local language and ensure that posters are clearly displayed in the MSF supported health facilities.

·       Dedicate time to identify and speak with vulnerable patient admitted in MSF supported health facilities (patient’s rights, basic necessities, vulnerabilities and critical needs, access to health services, livelyhood, safe spaces, legal support and other protection needs).

·       Regularly updates the actor mapping and coordinate with relevant actors on in order to respond to the protection needs as per the mandate of the actors present in the area, to mitigate the possibility of reoccurrence of the events.

·       Maintains the record of protection cases with confidentiality and conducts monthly analysis to understand the patterns and root cause of the protection issues.

·       Within the outreach teams coordinate the same activities in the area MSF is doing outreach activities with the support of DMCs in Mamfe project to provide social support and respond to the protection[m1]  needs of most vulnerable population.

·       Conducts the group discussion with communities to identify the community needs and enhance the understanding of the community about MSF work.

·       To carry out additionall activities as per the current need of targeted population, when requested[m2] .

·       Liase and follow up on external referrals of identified vulnerable patients and community members.

·       Advocate patient’s rights in health facility to ensure that patient under Doctors Without Borders are receiving free services with dignity.

 

 

Required Competences

Education

Bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW) or Social Psychology.

Experience

Two years minimum in a similar social job; experience with MSF or other NGOs desirable. Experience in case management will be considered an asset.

 

Languages                      

Local language (Pigin) and English essential.

 

Other Skills

Computer Literacy (Microsoft Office Tools)
