OVERVIEW

The Senior Accountant reports to the Head of Finance and completes activities to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reports, detailed and accurate fund accounting, and enhanced internal controls to preserve Rainforest Trusts’ assets.

** Please note: This position will start as a 3-month temporary assignment with possibility of transitioning to regular employment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare monthly financial and budgeting reports including profit and loss by department / object code, net income analysis, Charity Navigator scores, and net asset analysis.
  • Prepare and analyze fund and financial reports for reasonableness and accuracy. Make corrections as needed
  • Backup Staff Accountant to process payroll when needed
  • Confirm, track, and report on all open partnership / project agreements and receivables associated with them.
  • Bank and general ledger account reconciliations, ensuring that general ledger balances are also reconciled between Donor and Conservation Databases.
  • Monthly closing journal vouchers and general ledger account analysis
  • Assist with annual audit and preparation of financial statements under GAAP for Not-for-Profit organizations
  • Assist with annual budget preparation
  • Assist with continuous improvement of processes, including support with software implementation
  • Other projects / tasks assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and 5+ years Senior Accounting experience, to include fund accounting experience
  • CPA highly preferred
  • Very proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of GAAP for Not-for-Profit organizations
  • Knowledge of and experience in processing payroll with a payroll company
  • Ability to work well with diverse personalities and under tight deadlines
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

WORKING CONDITIONS AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

The Senior Accountant may choose to work from home, at our office in Warrenton, VA or mix the two. Home work requires reliable internet access. Occasional visits to our office will be required, necessitating business travel.

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: Up to $75,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
