Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.
Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Private Sector and Finance Advisor or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer will:

 

  • Prepare Policy briefs, review and compile relevant policy issues in Africa with a focus on private sector development and engagement as well public and private finance for the SDGs.
  • Mapping private sector financing models, business models and operations and institutional arrangements.
  • Support Informal economy project launch and implementation.
  • Support the development of digital finance/fintech projects;
  • Support companies under the AfCFTA to scale and link with SMEs.
  • Identification of barriers and solutions for private sector engagement and financing of the SDGs and Private Sector COVID 19 response strategies.
  • Supporting governments to design appropriate interventions and strategies to support responses and recovery COVID-19 affected enterprises and value chains.
  • Formulation of relevant regional, national, and sub-national development financing policy options.
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned projects;
  • Undertakes outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
  • Participates in field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, coordinate with government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries, etc.
  • Support countries in the design and implementation of effective MSMEs solutions;
  • Coordinates activities related to budget and funding (project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and prepares related documents/reports (proposal, work programme, programme budget, etc.).
  • Performs other duties as required.

Master degree or equivalent
Educational additional comments
  • Advanced higher degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Economics, Business, Finance, Development Studies or related fields is required.

Experience remark
  • A minimum of five years of field experience in private sector development or private sector engagement as well as development finance solutions is required.
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners,
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel.
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Sound security awareness;
  • Have affinity with or interest in volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
