Eligibility criteria

Candidate age: between 18 and 29 throughout the entire duration of their assignment. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

The UN Youth Volunteer will be located in the Front Office of the Country Representative and will work under the supervision of the UN Women thematic programme lead to support the Women, Peace, and Security Program and under the direct supervision of the UN Women Representative to support partnerships, resource mobilization and donor relations.

Support to the Women, Peace and Security Program

· Support research and analysis to guide policy advocacy and programming to promote women’s participation in peace and security settings in Nigeria;

· Provide support for the convening of strategic policy dialogues to advance women’s participation in peace and security in Nigeria;

· Maintain an ongoing watching-brief on national policy developments related to women peace and security and identify strategic policy entry points for UN Women;

· Prepare policy briefs and guidance notes on national policy developments and trends to inform country level programme on peace and security.

· Provide technical inputs to strengthen programme documents, concept notes and strategic documents;

· Support effective application of results based management principles and tools for programming related to women’s role in peace and security in Nigeria;

· Support implementation of donor reporting obligations and knowledge codification

Support to partnerships, resource mobilization and donor relations:

· Maintain ongoing liaison with programme staff overseeing work on other thematic areas and work streams including economic empowermentpolitical participation, ending violence against women, private sector liaison, normative campaigns, and communications to strengthen coherence and support resource mobilization efforts across thematic areas;

· Support donor outreach efforts of the Country Representative to support partnership-building and commitments to expand work on women peace and security amongst other thematic areas including through conducting donor intelligence and preparing briefing notes and talking points for the Country Representative.

· Support the development of new projects, including drafting concept notes and supporting the development and submission of project proposals.

· Facilitate the signing of donor agreements and ensure timely entries of new projects in the Donor Agreement Management System (DAMS).

· Maintain the Leads Management system to ensure up to date information on resource mobilization efforts

· Perform other tasks as required.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level

Master degree or equivalent

Educational additional comments

Master degree in gender, political science, law, international relations or any other related area of study

 Demonstrated interest and/or experience (up to 2 years) in gender and peace and security issues

 Motivated to contribute towards peace and development and to serve others;

 Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills;

 Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team;

 Flexible and open to learning and new experiences;

 Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures, environments and living conditions;

 Fluency in spoken and written English is required , and knowledge of an other UN language is an asset;

 Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work,

internship) would be highly regarded;

Computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, and others)
