Working locations: Based in Wum with travel to Bamenda MSF facilities

Type of contract: CDD

Salary: According to the organisation´s Salary Grid.

Main Purpose

Provide support and tools to the CHW to ensure a proper care, treatment and follow-up of patients, according with MSF protocols applied in service and universal hygiene standards/precautions, in order to ensure the quality and continuity of care for the targeted population. Monitor that the CHW provides clear and accurate information and health education messages at the community level, and strengthen the link between the community and the MSF health structures. Outreach nurse will collect data/information about the community from the CHW and play a role in responding to the community needs.

 

Principal Tasks

       Organize, train, and supervise the team of CHWs in terms of:

       Planning and organizing their work (areas, days, absences, visits, consultations);

       Support, evaluation and coaching of personnel;

       Visiting regularly communities that are under his/her responsibility;

       Support in elaboration/improvement of materials and identification of strategies for delivering the focused information to the community.

       Reporting (collecting reports of each health worker and report his/her activities)

       Support the Coordinator in organizing and carry out assessments and research on the impact of CHW activities.

       Participate and supervise the CHWs in collecting and reporting, to the medical team, any information linked to the health situation of the population and patients; (e.g. food security, vaccination status, nutritional situation, detect medical needs of the population, number of people arriving or leaving the community, births and deaths in the community, vaccination status of children, etc).

       Organizing and carrying out care and treatments according to MSF protocols, and assisting during weekly meetings with CHW participating in health education and providing medicines for the CHW to be able to provide to the patient when necessary.

       Supervising and training CHW on malnutrition, malaria and AWD, ensuring teamwork and adherence to all appropriate protocols and procedures. Play important role on identifying Sexually Gender Based Violence victims and referring them to the medical team so they can receive the necessary treatment. Knowing and be aware of the importance and appropriate use of the Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Kit

       Maintain confidentiality regarding all information observed or registered. Carrying out surveillance and follow-up of patients when detected on the communities and ensure proper refer to health structures. 

       Carrying and supervising data collected by CHW, ensuring an appropriate oral handover and reporting any problematic situations. Participating in data collection and keeping supervisors informed.

       Participate in the pharmacy and medical equipment control and maintenance. Ensure quality and storage conditions, follow-up of expired drugs and weekly inventories and request.

       Identify and keep good relation with the key actors (local authorities, local NGOs, traditional healers, formal or informal authorities) to support the dissemination of health information to the target population, and be the point of reference for the relation and networking with these subjects.

       Identify constraints, difficulties or strength point of the CHW strategy inside and outside the medical structures, and report it to the Coordinator, to reinforce the link between the communities and the project.

       Identify, design and search for pedagogical material and illustrative tools useful for the activities in order to improve quality and intelligibility of the messages

       Inform, according to protocols, community members and identified risk groups  about health related issues.

       Plan if needed information campaigns, including targets, objectives, methods and goals in order to increase awareness among the targeted population.

       Ensure cleanliness of information, education and communication areas.

 

Required Qualifications

·         Essential: Recognized nursing degree/diploma

·         Desirable: Bachelor in Science of Nursing or related. 2 years previous experience as a nurse and experience in an NGO setting.

·         English language and Wum dialect or local languages are essential. Pidgin English is an asset.

·         Essential computer literacy (word, excel, internet)

·         Competences: Demonstratable experience in supervising and training others; Results and quality orientation; teamwork and cooperation; Behavioural flexibility; Commitment to DWB principles; Stress Management; and Service Orientation.
