Related with our activities we are looking for a Midwife Supervisor

 

Working location(s): Mamfe District Hospital and occasionally other Health Facilities in Mamfe surroundings.

Type of contract: Fixed Term 6 months

Salary: According to the organisation´s Salary Grid - Level 8

 

Main purpose

Supervising the clinical activities and guaranteeing the quality of midwifery care in the department, according to MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards in order to provide a high quality Mother and Child Health (MCH) care to the population

 

Accountabilities and Tasks

        Supervising, supporting and evaluating the team under his/her responsibility particularly midwives, midwife assistants and other related staff in her team such as cleaners. Planning and organizing their work (areas, days, absences, visits, holidays, etc) and coaching them in their work with special focus in following all appropriate protocols and procedures

        Ensuring team work and a professional relationship between maternity and other departments.

        Supervising the clinical activities in all the maternity departments  and activities such as ante-natal consultations, delivery and after delivery follow up, post-natal consultations, family planning consultations, new-born vaccinations and liaising with the Medical Doctor about the patients who need special care times, visiting hours, etc.

        Ensuring that the staff on duty knows, implements and follows at all times the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control in the medical premises ensuring high standards of hygiene in the working environment

        Ensuring  that all staff  using medical devices are qualified and trained, cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed  according to the protocols, reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.

        Being responsible for the department-related pharmacy activities (stock and consumption monitoring) as well as maintenance of the medical equipment

        Being responsible for ensuring that all the administrative procedures, patients’ data and documents are filled in correctly and registered for compiling monthly reports reflecting the activity in the department.

        In certain contexts, being responsible for ensuring that the maternity staff is able to identify, receive and provide care to the victims of the SGBV in collaboration with the Obs Gyne MD and following the protocols

 

Context Specific Accountabilities

§  To provide support for all staff: midwives, nurses, health educators, and cleaners. Supervision of midwifery care including antenatal care (ANC), Family planning, (FP) and postnatal care (PNC) to women within the Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) activity including health centers and outreach according to DWB protocols and guidelines. Help and supervise when SRH activities are busy. Support, advise and help with any difficult cases and ensure proper timely management.

§  To assist and supervise the management of obstetric emergency cases

§  To request assistance and/or extra training where and when possible for other members of staff.

§  To ensure that ALL staff are maintaining high standards of care, hygiene and are up-to-date with their skills

§  Supervise the dentification of complications in mother and baby and ensure appropriate management

§  To promote and explain SRH DWB practice, particularly where it is different from traditional practices

§  Supervise the staff while maintaining a high standard of care for both mothers and babies.

§  To participate and supervise staff in maternal health education

§  Ensure regular supervision and support in the hospital maternity, health centers and outreach activities

§  Ensure to treat patients and their attendants with respect and dignity and to inform them appropriately of offered procedures

 

Data and Reporting

§  Ensure that accurate records are kept, and data recorded at each consultation and admission

§  To ensure that staff enter data correctly and appropriately according to data case definition

§  To ensure consumption of items used during shift are recorded and to train staff for better quality of recording.

§  To take part in weekly and monthly meetings and carry out administrative duties of the unit as requested

Supervise with impartiality

§  Realize the limits of her/his experience to ensure no action or omission on her/his part places the patient at risk.

§  Be polite, calm and diplomatic in all communications whether dealing with patients, relatives, DWB staff or referring hospitals for the benefit of professional care and to preserve the image of DWB

§  Act in a professional manner at all times, including relationships with colleagues

§  Be awake, aware and responsive to patients at all times on shift

§  Not accept gifts or money from patients or their family for care provided in the maternity unit and SRH activities

§  Not prescribe or recommend purchase of medications outside DWB policies

§  Report early to the DWB activity manager if ill or unable to attend duties.

 

NB: The employee may be required to perform other tasks, take on other responsibilities, and work in other locations, depending on the needs of the project/mission.

 

 

Requirements

Education:                       Essential recognized Diploma of Midwife (or any Diploma recognized in the country and/or                                   Ministry of Health to practice as such)

 

Experience:                 Desirable 3 years of previous experience as senior Midwife.

                                

Languages:                 Local language essential (Pidgin). Mission language essential (English)

 

Knowledge:                 Essential computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
