Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the relevant Information Systems Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

·         Participate in the development of a Cloud native platform using microservice-centered principles.

·         Design and develop Microservices in Java. Code will adhere to internal coding standards.

·         Ensure the technical solution is in line with the system architecture.

·         Maintain, test and document code / configuration for applications and platforms.

Required degree level

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Educational additional comments

·         Information technology, computer science, electrical engineering or similar area.

·         Masters degree would be considered as an advantage.

Required experience

60 Months

Experience remark

a.       Minimum of 5 years of proven practical experience in Information Technology or related field;

b.      At least 3 years of experience in software development using Java or Java EE;

c.       Proven practical experience in development of Web Services using SOAP and REST.

d.      Proven experience in development using SQL.

e.       Proven experience in work with team;

f.       Experience in NOSQL is a plus

Language skills

·         English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise

IT architecture and IT project management, Development programme management, Software and applications development and analysis

Area of expertise details

·         Knowledge of information technology/information management, particularly in systems analysis, database design and programming.

·         Knowledge of programming languages for development of web applications such as JavaScript, Java, or jQuery.

·         Knowledge of Object-Relational Mapping frameworks such as Hibernate or any persistence framework for NoSQL databases.

·         Knowledge of frameworks for development of restful web services using an agile methodology.

·         Must have good communication skill as the role might require direct communication with the stakeholders.

·         Ability to undertake complex data analysis, understand data and to propose analytical dashboard and effective data visualizations.

·         Familiar with the Project Lifecycle process from requirements gathering, development, testing, user acceptance, deployment and support.

·         Knowledge of interactive systems.

·         Good knowledge of organization’s information infrastructure and IT strategy as it relates to user area(s).

·         Knowledge of microservices architecture is a plus.

·         Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.

·         Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, to include proficiency in the development and implementation of systems of moderate size/complexity.

·         Demonstrated ability to persuade others to accept systems recommendation or modifications.

·         Ability to independently maintain assigned systems and develop innovative approaches to resolve a wide range of issues/problems.

·         Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

·         Knowledge of another UN official language (Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, French) is desirable.
