On behalf of the Federal Foreign Office and the European Union, GIZ advises ECCAS on the coordination and implementation of the border program at regional and national level. The aim of the ECCAS border program is to support the member states in anchoring their territorial state borders in legally binding international border treaties and in physically demarcating them, in order to make a contribution to conflict prevention between neighboring states. To this end, GIZ, in consultation with ECCAS, supports the member states directly in the areas of delimitation, demarcation, cross-border cooperation and offers training and further education.

Your tasks

  •  Support for the preparation and conception of the new phase of the AU & ECCAS border project (among other things working on the editing of the offer, gender analysis, peace & conflict matrix, impact matrix/log frame)
  •  Support in advising the ECCAS commission and national border commissions and support in the implementation of activities
  •  Support for the project's communication and public relations work with a focus on Central Africa
  •  Supporting the team in knowledge management and information exchange, as well as event organization and administrative tasks
  •  Participation in writing articles and creating presentations and publications on the program
  •  Reporting support (particularly in relation to Central Africa)
  •  Participation in internal and external meetings and events

your profile

  •  You are studying in the field of politics, social sciences, law, economics or communication sciences or related subjects
  •  Mandatory: Business fluent knowledge of French, English and German, both spoken and written
  •  Practical experience in the field of peace and security, ideally with work experience in another African country
  •  Good knowledge of common MS Office applications
  •  Flexibility, organizational skills and excellent communication skills. You are team-oriented and at the same time convince with an independent, structured way of working

The internship is only possible if you are currently enrolled, are in a further education program that includes completing an internship as an integral part, or if you graduated no more than 6 months before the start of the internship.

The monthly internship fee is €1,689 (gross). Depending on the country of assignment, an additional monthly foreign allowance (gross) in an amount set by GIZ will be added to the trainee's remuneration.
