Related with our activities we are looking for DRIVER/ MECHANIC- Mamfe

 

Working locations: MAMFE DISTRICT – with movements between Mamfe, Kumba, Buea, Bamenda

 

Type of contract: Fixed Term

 

Salary: According to the organisation´s Salary Grid – Level 4

 

 

 

Main Purpose

 

Performing autonomously, complex / advanced servicing, maintenance and repair of DWB vehicles and other engines according to DWB standards and procedures, in order to ensure vehicles are in perfect running conditions.

 

Performing the tasks of transporting authorized goods and passengers in a DWB vehicle, ensuring its technical and safety conditions and respecting the country's traffic rules and DWB security rules, in order to provide a safe, smooth and efficient service.

 

Principal Tasks

 

  • Checking daily, the technical conditions of the assigned vehicle (state of the tires, oil, fuel, brakes, radio equipment, spare parts, etc.), performing weekly check according to the DWB Logbook, refilling it when necessary, and keeping it clean to ensure it can be driven in perfect conditions. Carrying out a hand over if another uses the vehicle

  • Ensuring the security of passengers in the vehicle, driving carefully, observing speed limits and traffic rules in the country as well as DWB security rules, in order to avoid car accidents.

  • Ensuring all passengers have all necessary papers in order before travelling, and ensuring non DWB staff sign disclaimers of responsibility before using the vehicle

  • Ensuring correct loading and unloading of the vehicle, submitting the documents to the receiver of the goods, checking the status of delivered goods, returning the duly completed documents to Logistics and ensuring that the goods have the necessary documents

  • Ensuring that all vehicle documents and the driver's driving license are valid and in the vehicle.

  • Informing the line manager of any incident involving the transportation of passengers and/or goods.

  • Knowing how to use all types of radios, codes, call numbers and radio alphabets by heart and communicating with base according to DWB communications policy to inform the driver's position and any potential implications.

  • Knowing and respecting the security rules related to vehicle movements, specifically those related to customs, checkpoints and roadblocks. Ensuring all passengers know and respect the security rules

  • Performing autonomously and ensuring, all necessary complex / advanced maintenance and repair of MSF vehicles and mechanical equipment to ensure they are in perfect condition for their use. This includes the following tasks : 

  • Performing maintenance according to the instructions in the logbook, ensuring all type of services to all vehicles are done on time (i.e. mini A, medium B and full C, and special services referred in logbook when possible).

    • Testing all vehicles after each service is concluded and before it is handed back to its driver

    • Keeping record of vehicle’s driver remarks, and carrying out repairs if needed (vehicles and other mechanical equipment) and filling in service, repair or vehicle log book. Reporting to the line manager any problem related to MSF vehicles

    • In the case of a breakdown, making a diagnosis, informing the line manager and after approval carrying out any complex / advanced repairs needed.

    • Following up the validity of all documents (annual inspections, insurance or any other required documents)

    • Assisting in the briefing or training of drivers regarding vehicle services and maintenance

  • Managing the stock of consumable items, filling in the stock cards, carrying out physical stock inventories, executing orders necessary for renewing stock, avoiding any shortage

  • Responsible for the equipment and tools, including extinguishers, checking they are correctly and safely used, maintaining and renewing them when necessary and keeping the inventory updated.

  • Keeping working area clean and tidy.

 

Ensuring that all record sheets and books related to maintenance are always completed and preparing needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Essential literacy and driving license. Good knowledge of country roads.

  • Essential 2 years minimum of previous driving and mechanic experience, desirable experience with specific vehicles to use (4x4)

  • Demonstrable mechanics experience

  • Desirable experience in Doctors Without Borders or other NGOs

  • Essential English and local language
