Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the FAO Representative and in cooperation with the Communication teams in REOWA, RAF and OCC, the UNV specialist will carry overall responsibility for all the FAO Country Office communication activities and perform the following functions;

·         Ensure that all communication at FAO is managed in accordance with the Communication Strategy and contribute to the updating of the same as necessary.

·         Strengthen FAO’s strategic partnership with government partners, other development partners,

·         donors and potential donors and target beneficiaries;

·         Strengthen FAO media relations and public visibility.

·         Coordinate public communication activities of the representation through photo coverage, press releases, and interviews, and identifying appropriate tools and channels for the same.

·         Oversee and participate in the drafting of articles briefings, key messages, newsletters and other written communications for FAO, ensuring a high level of consistency accuracy relevance of content and presentation for a wide range of audiences.

·         Promote the use of social media internally and among stakeholders to promote FAO work (website,twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram)

·         Promote internal and external communication and serve as the first line of support relating to media queries

·         Manage FAO Gambia’s website ensuring that it is regularly updated

·         Contribute to the development/updating of the Resource Mobilization Plan for 2019 – 2021

·         Participate in the recruitment of communications staff

·         Manage the communications team, and determine training and development needs and provide formal organized coaching and mentoring sessions for the communications team to address observed and self- declared gaps

·         Undertake any other duties as required.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level

Master degree or equivalent

Educational additional comments

Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or Communications or any other relevant field

Required experience

36 Months

Experience remark

3 years relevant experience at national and international levels. Experience in working with a development organization is an added advantage

Language skills

·         English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise

Journalism, mass media and broadcasting, Knowledge management, archiving and documentation, Other communications related experience

Area of expertise details

Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or Communications or any other relevant field

Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems.
