BRITE ACADEMY

Brite Academy (Brite) is an international social innovation, human and technology-driven company with headquarters in Buea, Cameroon. Brite Academy is created to train and prepare students and graduates with skills, practical trainings and mentorship needed for the 21st century job market through “Reskilling to jobs of the future”.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall supervision of the CEO, the Communication Officer, will manage all aspects of video project production including scripting, filming, and editing to ensure timely delivery of professional video and photography digital content. This individual will work with a team to create compelling and engaging digital content through video, photography, presentation, emerging media, and other multimedia applications. They will ensure continual creative improvement and actively contribute to a culture of innovation, excellence and accountability.

The Consultant will be responsible for developing partnerships with relevant media channels with keen interest in promoting gender financial inclusion, to disseminate information and create awareness about BRITE ACADEMY and its different activities.
Key function and responsibilities are, but not limited to:

1.Brite Academy Communications Awareness

·       The Communications Officer will work closely with the Brite Academy team to ensure that relevant program materials such as different Brite Academy reports including factsheets/case studies, infographics etc. are developed and disseminated to all relevant stakeholders and media networks, including social media.

·       He/she will develop and maintain contact information, materials and relationships with journalists and media outlets (print, TV, radio, social media etc.) to increase coverage opportunities about Brite Academy activities.

·       Collaborate with the media, facilitate interviews, photo coverage and TV footage; develop and lead social media plans.

2.Communication Products

·       Develop, implement and monitor a communication work plan covering a rolling XXX-month period.

·       Support for the development of new communication products, including an internal and
external e-newsletter, corporate brochures. Organize the designing, editing and publishing
of Brite Academy brochures, power points, case studies and reports.

·       Enterprise, draft and disseminate Brite Academy impact stories, press releases and social media content as needed in English and French.

·       Update and/or develop the Brite Academy website and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn) as well as be responsible for daily monitoring, posting, content
development and engagement.

 

·       Work with external media production houses to develop multimedia content such as
videos, animations, etc.

·       Develop and deliver Brite Academy awareness campaigns to promote program and results.

·       Monitor and evaluate the use and effectiveness of all communications and media materials.
Maintain a database of media coverage, clippings etc.

·       Be responsible for modern and appropriate filing, archiving of photos, video and press
contacts to databases managed by Brite Academy

·       The Communication Officer will help design, manage and roll out thematic events such as seminars, roundtables, and participation to conferences and Bank Annual Meetings. This also involves branding these events in coordination with Brite Academy

3.Multimedia Production

·       Create, develop and manage the full video production process from start to finish including:

o   Pre-production – vision, strategy, script development, manage production timeline 

o   Production – planning and managing video shoots and carrying out interviews as required

o   Post-production – video editing - narration, translation and subtitling

·       Deliver ready to publish multimedia content across all Brite Academy channels

·       Create and maintain production schedules taking into account changing project priorities, milestones, and resource constraints.

·       Analyse and prioritize requests for multimedia content

·       Ensure quality control for all visual media and ensure that creative content and products comply with brand standards, policies, directives, and client needs.

·       Achieve consensus among diverse viewpoints and effectively translate ideas into, actionable steps.

·       Manage content production and workflow from inception through completion, ensuring all stakeholders are aligned. This includes development of budget estimates, resourcing, and project management

 

4.Content Development

·       Creatively package and turn video footage into engaging multimedia content

·       Create video project success stories

·       Write treatments for motion graphic videos, live videos and photography projects including sound, graphics, animation, special effects and other visual forms to be included.

·       Serve as a creative point of contact by developing strong relationships with clients and colleagues.

·       Ensure all information is accurate before publishing, whether written or visual content, to prevent copyright infringements (e.g. plagiarism and ghost-written content) and discard any misrepresentation or defamation.

5.Web content coordination

·       Oversee the accuracy of the overall visual look of the Bank’s website, including images, videos, and other digital media.

 

·       Coordinate with the web technical team the posting of all edited press releases, event announcements, success stories, and news stories to the Bank’s website and ensure the homepage content is up-to-date.

·       Collaborate with professionals (e.g. web designers, graphic designers, video and photo specialists) to improve content presentation on the website.

·       Work closely with editors, consultants, project managers, and designers to ensure all requested changes are understood and implemented correctly to keep the websites accurate, up-to-date, and fresh.

·       Ensure that all digital content is timely, relevant, effective, and formatted for the web.

·       Maintain an editorial calendar and web content plan.

Selection Criteria

  • Hold a master’s degree in Communication, Journalism or related field.
  • Have a minimum of six (6) years’ experience working in newsrooms (newspaper or news agency) as Editor, including at least four (4) as a content coordinator.
  • Experience of having worked as Head of News Desk or Newsroom Coordinator
  • A proven track record of working for multilateral development banks or international companies.
  • Journalistic background with strong writing and editing skills with proven experience of working as
  • Be able to identify appropriate content.
  • Proven experience of leading teams.
  • Strong digital content/communication knowledge, from strategy to execution.
  • Be able to effectively solve problems, think creatively, make decisions and act, exercising independent judgment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, detail oriented.
  • Able to work on tight deadlines and ensure quality and consistent output.
  • Able to maintain a professional and positive attitude under pressure.
  • Able to quickly blend into and maintain a smooth working relationship with a multilingual team.
  • Able to manage multiple projects independently.
  • Working knowledge of French would be an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint.)

Competencies
The consultant should have a relevant Masters’ degree and background in journalism/or communication /or marketing and an ability to work with a diverse range of colleagues to bring stories to life.
A minimum of 4 years’ experience with a proven professional record working in the field of
communication, preferably in the area of education
Excellent spoken and written skills in English and French.
Interested individuals must provide proof of competence, including links to written and published articles, press releases, op-eds, media advisories and impact stories.

 


The Communication Officer is expected to have the following skills and abilities

·       Fast, accurate, creative and versatile writing skills, including for digital and social media,

·       Understanding of the newsgathering and media storytelling process;

·       Familiarity with Adobe Edit Suite is preferred

·       Fluency in social media and social media management platforms (Twitter, Periscope, LinkedIn, etc.);

·       Willingness to submit sample(s) of past event management campaigns, noting level of
involvement and event impact;

·       Willingness to submit Sample(s) of past communications materials, including articles, press
releases, video scripts, social media posts, etc.;

·       Client and results-oriented with strong analytical and communication (verbal and written) skills, sense of accuracy and attention to detail

·       Strong ability to enterprise newsworthy stories quickly and easily.

·       Good understanding of the issues relating to education, social Entrepreneurship and financial inclusion, especially in Africa.

·       Ability to analyze and communicate complex information and institutional language quickly and simply for audiences.

·       Client and results-oriented with strong analytical and communication (verbal and written) skills, sense of accuracy and attention to detail.

·       Good political and personal judgment

·       Excellent written editing skills

·       Competent in the use of standard software applications (MS Word, Power Point, Excel)
