Duties & Responsibilities

Take a report from the previous shift

Assist patients in preparation for meals, drinks, and snacks when necessary.

Feed patients if needed.

Record and report all relevant information to the Registered Nurse on duty.

Assist patients with fluids

Assist patients in the dining room.

Put bibs on for those who need it.

Help dish up and cut food for patients who are too weak.

Do rounds by your patients

Assist residents with their daily tasks that they cannot manage and provide general support as part of a caring team.

Assist and encourage dietary & fluid intake

Monitoring health-related conditions such as dietary & fluid intake.

To help residents with mobility difficulties, and/or other physical disabilities, including incontinence.

Safely using aids and personal equipment in a manner that respects the dignity of clients.

Record and report all relevant residents’ information.

Ensure individuality and personal dignity by promoting high standards of care and encouraging independence where appropriate.

Ensure that different cultural needs are catered for sensitively.

Respect the confidential nature of the work.

Provide direct care to residents as circumstances require.

Attend meetings, case conferences and training courses as required.

Contribute to an effective system of communication within the team, by discussion and regular team meetings.

To undertake such duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature, as may be determined by the sister in charge from time to time in consultation with the post holder.

Ensure that the Health and Safety policies are implemented at all times.

Undertake any other duties specified by Management

Assist patients with getting up in the mornings/going to bed in the evenings.

Ensure that patients have been bathed and washed before and after getting up.

Ensure that the men have been shaven, and the woman’s hair has been washed.

Take the report from the day/night staff.

Do rounds at patients.

Assist co-workers where necessary.

Do hourly rounds and advise co-workers where needed.

Assist with fluid intake during teatime with residents.

Ensure that the tee-trolley is fetched at mealtimes. This is both the care-worker and the enrolled nurse’s duty.

Check nappies for the night and record nappy rounds.

 

 

Desired Experience & Qualification

Have a minimum of 2 years experience in the Nursing Field

Must have a Diploma in in-home Nursing registered with HW SETA

Have a Matric Certificate

Ability to handle the nature of the work

Be bilingual

 

Requirements

 

Minimum education level: Grade 12 /N4 (Matric)

 

3 years of experience

 

Language(s): English
