METABIOTA Cameroon is looking for a Capacity Building & Training Specialist who will support a potential project on Strengthening Public Health Laboratory Systems in the Republic of Cameroon to be funded by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). The goal is to build the capacity of related actors to support high-quality patient-centered services, data quality, and subsequent use at all levels to achieve current and emerging health sector objectives.

MCL’s principle objectives include: research into the interactions between ecology and human health; infectious disease surveillance; the promotion of public health; the reduction of epidemic and pandemic threats in Central Africa; and the provision of training in public health research and practice.

About the Position:

We seek a Capacity Building & Training Specialist with a global perspective who shares our passion and dedication to successful implementation of results driven public health. A successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to excel in a collaborative, intense, and entrepreneurial environment. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with initiative, confidence, discipline, and content expertise to effectively manage challenges and objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of capacity building & training expertise in global health, disease surveillance, Laboratory, and/or infectious disease topics with strong background in public health disease prevention and surveillance including epidemics and pandemics control.

The Capacity Building & Training Specialist will work closely with the Government of Cameroon, health system stakeholders and PEPFAR IPs to ensure the organization of various training sessions in support to the technical areas across the project. He will also assist in the process of the development of national policies, guidelines, SOPs and other tools necessary for the capacity building of institutions and actors.

They will report to the Project Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee elaboration of all guidelines, SOPs and tools within the project;
  • Oversee all training and capacity building sessions of beneficiary personnel;
  • Coordinate the logistics needed for successful completion of the trainings;
  • Help monitor quality services through the follow up of SOP and tools developed implementation, through regular visits, on-site supervision and feedback from beneficiaries;
  • Work in close collaboration with the National and International Experts to ensure; appropriate competency transfer throughout the entire Program;
  • Coordinate the collection and documentation of the trainings for evaluation purposes and report progress;
  • Provide support to the project staff to facilitate ongoing progress toward project goals and to ensure quality of work;
  • Assist the Project Manager in all project planning, day-to-day implementation, compliance with project proposals and timely execution of all tools, guidelines development and training activities.

Required Experience:

Successful candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • MD, Master’s degree in public health/Laboratory or equivalent degree.
  • Direct experience in working within public health system in Cameroon especially in public health disease prevention and surveillance including epidemics and pandemics control with capacity building proven track record.
  • Ability to work in a team, independently and to plan and prioritize work with minimal supervision.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, especially within diverse international settings.
  • Available to travel domestically or internationally when needed.
  • Fluent in French and English (written and spoken).
